Let idle sites sleep

Ten live background pages annoy the fan first.

1.7.0 sleeps unused sites on a timeout and wakes them on click. 5 / 10 / 30 minutes / 1 hour. The tab greys; a moon marks it. The page you are reading stays live.

Pro sleeps on your timeout, not a hard count. Turn the master switch off and sites stay open. Free still caps two live sites; over the cap the longest idle sleeps and unloads so the memory board does not grow a fake extra process row.

This page is live. The other two passed your timeout unread and released memory.

Idle sites sleep: the tab greys, a moon marks it. Click to wake. Pro sleeps on your timeout, not a hard count.

Settings

Settings → Performance. Never sleep one site: override it in the site editor, or turn the master off. Manual sleep: tab menu, or the moon in the window switcher.

The memory board is process RSS. It does not invent a megabyte per tab.

Do not

  • Do not put a 5-minute sleep on a board you auto-refresh. Pick one.
  • Do not read “slept” as signed out. Wake and the session is still on this computer.
  • Do not turn off official Cloud to save RAM. Cloud does not run your page processes.

Moving the layout: Cloud copies setup, not cookies.
